Kindergarten Gymnastics Unit, Sept. 12 - Oct. 7 | Parent Volunteers Are Needed!

Every year, we always have a "Gymnastics Unit" that involves our students with all kinds of climbing and using our balance skills. Our gymnastics unit will be held during the weeks of September 12th-- October 7th. In order for all of our "KINDERGARTEN" students to participate, I will need as many volunteers that I can get to help out with the Kindergarten classes from 11:00-11:40 each day.

If you can help out, please send me an email at (rob_blair@gwinnett.k12.ga.us) to let me know. Last year, we had 2-4 parents help almost every day during our KINDERGARTEN time slot. That was awesome! It keeps all of our little ones safe.

I'm looking for another great and exciting year with this beneficial unit!

Hope to hear and see from you soon!

Mr. Rob Blair

Science News from Mrs. Green

We are in the science lab this week having tons of fun! Thanks for all the support from parents already. We do have a lot in store for the year. If you ever need to email me, I'm reached at traci_green@gwinnett.k12.ga.us

We can always use old magazines, seashells, buttons, keys. We currently have a guinea pig, a tarantula, and gerbils if you ever want to make donations to our pets. Some pets come and visit us and then go home. Our guinea pig loves veggies like carrots and celery. Come by and see them. Our spider eats 5 crickets each Friday from the pet store. Our treasure box always accepts donations!! Thank you for a great start to a great year. I am enjoying all of our new students tremendously. I'm excited about the rest of the year. Be thinking about the science exhibit that we usually have in the spring.

Grayson Elementary Headphones Requirement

All Grayson Elementary students should provide their own headphones for use on student computers in the classrooms and labs. These headphones should be brought to school in a large plastic Ziplock-type bag with your child's first and last name, and homeroom teacher's name, written on the bag in permanent marker. The headphones will be stored in each child's classroom and take to the labs as needed. Thank you.

Great Days of Service | September 26-29

GCPS is collecting donations to support the 2011 GREAT DAYS OF SERVICE, sponsored by the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services. The donation will benefit Gwinnett shelters, group homes, and food pantries. Together, we can make a huge impact on the lives of others in our community! During this one week drive, students and staff members can bring these needed items to the front lobby of Grayson Elementary: large sizes of disposable diapers, toiletries, and canned goods and non-perishable food items. We beleive in the power of people helping people!

"Going Green" Update

Nearly 789 Reams of Paper Saved since January 2010 and Counting...

Estimated paper saved this week: 19,728 sheets.  Total sheets of paper saved since January 2010: 445,926!

Switching to recycled paper is definitely a big win for the environment. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) reports that 40 cases of 30% recycled copy paper (400 reams) will save more than seven trees, 2,100 gallons of water, 1,230 kilowatt-hours of electricity and 18 pounds of air pollution.
